fRI Research Welcomes New General Manager Ryan Tew

Ryan Tew

On June 6, Ryan Tew will take the reins at fRI Research as the sixth General Manager in the institute’s history.

“I’m excited to join the fRI Research team,” says Ryan. “I’m looking forward to all the challenges and experiences that this position will bring.”

Outgoing General Manager Bill Tinge retires at the end of June to start the next chapter of his life. This gives Ryan and Bill a month to work together to ensure a smooth transition.

“I’m pleased I have some time to provide background and context to Ryan, which will contribute to his success in this rewarding and satisfying position,” says Bill Tinge.

Ryan graduated in Environmental and Conservation Sciences at the University of Alberta. He started his career with the Government of Alberta with the Rangeland Management Branch. In 2007 Ryan took on a management role in the Ministry of Indigenous Relations working with Treaty 6 First Nations to build capacity in First Nations communities to consult with industry and government on resource development projects.

In 2012, he moved to Hinton to become the Senior Forest and Lands Training Specialist for the Wildfire Management Branch at the Hinton Training Centre, which also houses the fRI Research offices.

“The General Manager keeps the organization on track and serves as our ambassador to our partners,” says Rick Bonar, president of fRI Research. “The Board of Directors and I are eager to see Ryan take the baton and run with it.”
