Snow is melting in the mountains and it’s getting close to caribou calving so the fRI Caribou Program's aerial based fecal surveys have wrapped up for the season.
The Caribou Patrol is continuing to collect pellets from caribou migrating south of Grande Cache.
The caribou program have had a busy winter carrying out fecal surveys for health assessments in west-central Alberta. Challenging weather and snow conditions (warm temperatures, high winds, high avalanche conditions) has made this sometimes challenging. We’re looking forward to getting the samples to see what they reveal.
Scat is a precious resource in ecology, rich in data that can tell us a lot about the size and health of herds.
