Effects of MPB on food for grizzly bear and caribou: Summer 2014 update

We have had a busy first month (June) of sampling in west-central Alberta. Our field technicians have been working in areas surrounding Hinton, Grande Cache, Grande Prairie, and Fox Creek. The weather threw up a few surprises during the first shift – notably snowfall that made finding plants in sampling plots challenging, not to mention identifying them. However, this quickly changed to warm temperatures (25C change in 12 hours – ‘summer’ in the Rockies) and we have enjoyed sunny skies, warm days, and lots of bugs since.
