The Alberta Chamber of Resources (ACR) has awarded fRI their Environmental Award for 2014.
The award recipient is selected through an independent process by Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (AESRD). In advising ACR of its selection of the 2014 Environmental Award recipient, AESRD made special note of fRI collaboration and partnerships. Specifically, as per the selection form they provided in support of the nomination: “Synergy is undoubtedly the greatest benefit of the Foothills Research Institute, partnering with industry, governments, national and international universities, an array of environmental groups, agencies, and other like-minded groups. Managing resources is too important and too big a job for any one agency to do alone. In partnership, questions get asked and information is shared for best use…. The success of the Foothills Model Forest and now the Foothills Research Institute, attests to the benefit of collaboration amongst those parties that possess the mutual desire to see Alberta’s natural resources managed sustainably.”
ACR Executive Director Brad Anderson adds: “Almost all of the values we treasure and espouse as an organization and industry are embodied in the Foothills Research Institute. It underlines and strengthens the diversity of the resource base in Alberta. Through research and innovation, it promotes and enables the orderly and responsible development of the resource, and all of the social and economic benefits and environmental performance improvements that entails. And very close to home for us as a small organization at the staff level, it demonstrates and proves the power of collaboration and all the good things that can happen when you draw on the insights and expertise of your members or partners.”
The Alberta Chamber of Resources, incorporated in 1936, has nearly 200 members across the resource spectrum, and supports the orderly and responsible development of Alberta’s resource industry.
