This report reviews and summarizes the data already collected by Swan River First Nation and others on arctic grayling and its habitat quality in the Swan River watershed. Much of the monitoring has been done since 2018, and includes stream crossing assessments, population monitoring, temperature data, and more.
We also identify areas of concern and data gaps, with recommendations including:
- incorporating traditional knowledge into monitoring work
- updated population assessment
- temperature data at key places and times
- eDNA sampling at mitigated stream crossings
- overall understanding of water quality and health of the watershed
This report was prepared for Swan River First Nation, and is being made public with their permission.
