Video – Wet Areas Mapping: Conservation Applications. Presentation by Dr. Joyce Gould

Dr. Joyce Gould describes how wet areas mapping has been used Alberta parks. She starts by describing the recreation and conservation values of parks. Wet areas mapping is used by parks ecologists to assist and land use planning decisions. She illustrates the use of wet areas mapping using examples from different provincial parks both for protecting conservation values (e.g. wetland values) and developing recreation services. She finishes by describing additional modeling of soil moisture, vegetation types and species/habitat (e.g. invasive species in riparian areas, flying squirrels in conjunction with tree height and wet areas).

Dr. Joyce Gould is the Science Coordinator with Conservation and Recreation Planning,  Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation.  Her presentation was part of the Wet Areas Mapping Workshop in Calgary, Alberta, Feb. 11, 2013.
