Hinton’s Beaver Boardwalk project, and its group of volunteers, have been selected as a finalist in the Community Projects category of the Alberta Emerald Awards. Rick Bonar, originator and the biggest fan of the Beaver Boardwalk, nominated the project and its many volunteers who worked so hard on making this concept a reality.
Located on Maxwell Lake in the Town of Hinton, the Beaver Boardwalk highlights the local wetland system and showcases the area’s beaver habitat. The boardwalk trails were built by volunteers using materials and funding provided by West Fraser Mills Ltd. and other partner organizations over four years.
Finalists for the awards were announced April 29th, 2011 during a reception at Edmonton City Hall. The awards ceremony will take place on June 15th, 2011 at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, AB. Rick plans on attending the awards ceremony along with dedicated volunteer Rocky Morin.
