fRI Research is seeking a motivated individual to be part of their dynamic GIS Team.  Our office is located in Hinton, Alberta – a gateway to the Canadian Rockies and the heart of a four-season recreational paradise on the eastern edge of Jasper National Park.

Job Description

The GIS Analyst reports to the GIS Services Manager.  This position provides GIS analysis, GIS support and data management to fRI Research staff, programs, and associations. 

The successful applicant will be:

  • Supporting fRI Research with geospatial analysis;
  • Creating and maintaining GIS scripts, models, tools, and workflows;
  • Customizing and maintaining databases to manage field data from multiple sources; and
  • Providing support for cartographic and visual design on high quality map production and online content.

Essential Job Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or degree in GIS from a reputed educational institute;
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience using GIS as a full-time GIS Technician, GIS Specialist or GIS Analyst;
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, Visual Basic for Applications, and JavaScript;
  • Highly proficient with ESRI products, including ArcGIS Professional, ArcGIS Online and mobile applications;
  • Highly skilled in database design, customization and management;
  • Experience with optical and LiDAR remote sensing;
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills;
  • Highly motivated and able to work both independently and with a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Creative, original and have attention to detail to effectively convey research information; and
  • Strong oral, written, and electronic communication skills.

Job Requirement

Must be eligible to work in Canada.

Location

Our head office is located in Hinton, Alberta.  The candidate must be willing to work in Hinton, or be within a commuting distance of no more than 1 hour.

Wage

$31-$34 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Casual employees receive 4% vacation pay in lieu of paid vacation leave.

Hours

Schedule:  Flexible work schedule that falls within Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm

Hours of work: Flexible hours of work on an as needed basis, up to 8 hours per day.
