Hinton Trappers Association Host Provincial Rendezvous and Outdoorsman Show

More than 300 trappers attended the provincial rendezvous and outdoorsman show in Hinton on July 8th and 9th at the Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Centre. The event was hosted in Hinton partly to coincide with the bicentennial celebrations of David Thompson, explorer and cartographer.

Foothills Research Institute set up a booth at the trade show complete with mounted grizzly bear, our display panels and publications. It was a great opportunity to raise awareness about our research, to speak with some of the trappers themselves and share stories. Few people understand the forest better than trappers; they are able to see the big picture that’s needed with coming pressures to the land. Their knowledge is deep, intimate, and respectful and shows the love they have for the wilderness.

The Alberta Trappers Association strives to promote outdoor education with a focus on youth and that aligns nicely with some of FRI’s extension and outreach goals.
