Meet Brianna Lyman, Science Communication Intern!

Brianna Lyman stands in the parking lot before doing the Charlie Half Marathon Trail Race. She holds two thumbs up and is smiling.

Hi! I’m Brianna and I am excited to join Ben as a Laurentian Science Communication (almost) graduate working at fRI Research.

I studied Biology and Anthropology as an undergraduate at the College of Wooster in Ohio. I also had a minor in Earth Sciences and a pathway in Digital and Visual Storytelling while taking every interesting extracurricular I could. You may be getting the sense now that I am an avid learner with endless curiosity- which catapulted me to pursue science communication. As a science communicator I have a personal mission to ignite wonder and curiosity about the natural world in others. I cannot wait to start working towards this mission by spreading awareness about fRI Research’s insightful programs.

When I am not actively learning in a school or work environment my curiosity often leads me to visit informal sites, listen to podcasts on runs, explore the great outdoors, read about a guy in boxers fighting mobs with his talking cat, or create digital content.

Song recommendation: Horrible Histories- Natural Selection (Charles Darwin)

Science fact: Despite their striped back legs, okapis are more closely related to giraffes than zebras. I used to work at Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney world and this fact was a Kilimanjaro Safari favorite!

Laurentian University’s Science Communication Program offers both Master’s Degrees and Graduate Diplomas. The practical component, a 240-hour internship, is designed to give students hands-on experience applying their new knowledge and skills in the workplace. We’re proud to host Brianna this July and August and excited to see the stories she produces about our work!
