Vanderwell Contractors Commits Support for fRI Research

fRI Research is proud to announce our newest shareholder, Vanderwell Contractors (1971). The Slave Lake, Alberta sawmill has gone beyond providing funding for individual research projects by committing support for the core operations of fRI Research.

“Vanderwell sees the need for collaborative research now more than ever to address issues of land management related to wildlife, water resources, and other forest values,” says Mike Haire, Woodlands Manager at Vanderwell.

As Vanderwell’s representative, Haire joins the fRI Research Board of Directors, which has long served as a forum for exactly that collaboration
that Haire spoke of. Board members from governments, industries, and academics from Canadian universities meet regularly to discuss urgent land and resource management issues and bring questions for our researchers to answer.

“All industry and other stakeholders operating on crown land in Alberta are faced with many challenges, but by working together we are certain fRI Research will help solve those challenges for everyone,” says Haire. “fRI Research’s excellent track record and multi-stakeholder approach has delivered highly respected research on a variety of important challenges. This made the decision to join the group now a perfect fit.”

fRI Research General Manager Ryan Tew believes that Vanderwell’s investment in our research speaks to their commitment to sustainable land management and is an endorsement of the quality and relevance of the science we conduct.
