Community resilience to external stressors such as Mountain Pine Beetle and other forms of environmental and socio-economic change has remained an ambiguous concept, with different understandings about its meaning and practical application.
Rob Friberg’s research has focused on the development of an integrated assessment and decision-making framework from which rural and resource-based communities in Alberta and elsewhere can evaluate attributes currently impacting their resilience, and consider potential strategies for increasing resilience to pine beetle and other stressors. During his presentation Rob will discuss rationale behind the development of the framework and provide examples of preliminary results from a resilience assessment conducted with three Alberta communities.
Rob is a PhD candidate at UBC working on the NSERC TRIA-net collaboration.
