Bird Conservation Workshop Presentation: New Technological Approachces to Understanding Responses of Birds to Cumulative Effects

In the fall of 2015, our partners began expressing interest in new bird conservation research. On December 8, 2016, a bird conservation workshop was held at the University of Alberta, featuring presentations by a wide range of experts and a “knowledge cafe” style discussion.

The goal was to assess the current state of knowledge and identify related research questions.

Erin Bayne from the University of Alberta, discusses the pros and cons of different study designs to understand how cummulative effects and birds. He then argues that scale matters, drawing a distinction between local and landscape scale studies. This segues into his deployment of ARUs and automation to help tackle these issues for many species simultaneously.
