Likes: skiing, hiking, live music, hunting, and thrifting

Song recommendation: Cool Cat by Queen

Selina is coming to us from the United States where she worked as biologist doing bull trout permitting in Montana, and most recently as a member of a snorkel crew in Idaho monitoring natural production of anadromous salmonids. Prior to moving out west, she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Fisheries at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, making her a Pointer alum alongside Water and Fish Program Lead Ben Kissinger.

Selina will be joining the Water and Fish team as a master’s student in the Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Laboratory at the University of Calgary. Her project aims to test the detection probability of traditional sampling approaches commonly used to assess Arctic grayling population status such as angling and backpack and raft electrofishing. The fRI Research crew got a head start on her field work this last summer, referenced in Rags to Fishes. Hopefully she has better luck angling than Sam did!
