Welcome Dan Wismer!

The GIS Program has welcomed a new GIS Analyst to the team. Dan Wismer brings a well-rounded skillset and passion for geospatial technology.

Dan spent his summers as a forest fire fighter while working on his undergraduate degree in geography at the University of Ottawa. In 2015, he finished his Master’s in GIS at the University of Calgary. His research was on stream morphology in Kananaskis, Alberta.

This experience is an excellent fit with the work our Water Program does all along the easternslopes of the Rockies from the Peace to the Oldman River. Dan also has experience in web development, coding in Python, and remote sensing, all of which will be valuable to our programs.

“I’m excited to start applying my GIS knowledge to land use planning,” says Dan. Since he used to be a snowboarding instructor, and with winter in the mountains on its way, we in Hinton can think of one more thing for Dan to be excited about.
