Wildfire or logging? The truth about watershed health | Crowsnest Pass Herald

Now in its third decade, the Southern Rockies Watershed Project is revealing what wildfire and forestry near Alberta’s headwaters mean for the ecosystem – and people – downstream.

Project lead Dr. Uldis Silins from the University of Alberta was in Crowsnest Pass to share what we’re learning. There are lessons about the risk of flooding, changes to the aquatic ecosystem, the reliability of the water supply, and more.

“It’s a bit of a good news story,” he said, “It shows what’s possible when forestry operations are conducted to the highest standards.”
