Eat, Sleep, Work
‘It’s coming!’ yelled Aimee, only moments after getting our tents set up. We all frantically grabbed our bags and ran for shelter as a wall of rain moved across the lake towards our campsite. This was our welcome to Two Lakes, and to shift #4.
The rain came and went and came back again throughout the shift. Having already visited most of our nearby and easy to access points earlier in the summer, our days found us driving longer and hiking further – making for some long days of work. Some days it felt like all we did was eat, sleep and work.
Half-way through the shift we moved from Two Lakes to Kakwa camp. The evening before leaving Two Lakes we all went for a very short, cold swim in the lake, and then warmed up by the fire. After camping in Two Lakes, as beautiful as it is, we were happy to return to Kakwa, welcoming warm showers and a chance to dry our boots. Our evenings were spent berry picking or watching movies. We quickly learned that watching scary movies about camping alone in the forest, while you are camping in the forest, is not the best idea…
