Alberta Native Trout Science Workshop and Gathering II Proceedings

In February, 2025, 160 people from all sectors gathered in Calgary to share what they know about about Alberta’s native trout and the threats they face. These proceedings include a message from the organizers, presentation abstracts, the agenda, and more.

About the Workshop

The workshop was held February 26–28th, 2025 in Calgary, on the traditional lands of the Blackfoot Confederacy, the Tsuut’ina, the Stoney Nakoda Nations, the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

The Alberta Native Trout Science Workshop & Gathering II was sponsored by fRI Research, the Office of the Chief Scientist (Alberta Environment and Protected Areas), Fisheries and Oceans Canada-Canada Nature Fund for Aquatic Species at Risk, Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA), American Fisheries Society Mid-Canada Chapter (MCC) and Cows and Fish. In addition to these organizations, representatives from the Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, Alberta Conservation Association, Aseniwuche Winewak Nation, Freshwater Conservation Canada, Mount Royal University, Parks Canada, Swan River First Nation, University of Calgary, West Fraser, and Weyerhaeuser helped to plan the event.
